The ICC World Cup 2023 is underway, and we all have been mesmerised by the performance of the Men in Blue — especially ‘the Great Virat Kohli’, or ‘King Kohli’ as he is popularly called, for all his heroics and effortless batting.  

While ‘King Kohli’ can definitely teach us a lot about batting, he can teach us a thing or two about grammar as well. If you are wondering how then read on.

For all Virat Kohli fans like us, it’s important that when we speak or write about him, our sentences are grammatically consistent, just like his batting. Let’s see how:

* I am one of the biggest fan of Virat Kohli. ❌

This sentence is incorrect. One of is always followed by a plural noun. So the correct sentence will be:

* I am one of the biggest fans of Virat Kohli. ✔

 Similarly, you should say:

* Virat Kohli is one of the greatest batsmen of all time. ✔

If you are talking about the current players, undoubtedly and undisputedly

* Virat Kohli is the best batsman among all. ✔    

Here, you can pronounce the as “dee”…. “dee best batsman” for emphasis as Virat Kohli is an extraordinary batsman.

Another common mistake is to say:

* No batsman is better than Virat Kohli.❌

No batsman includes him as well and makes the sentence grammatically inconsistent. Therefore, the correct sentence is:

* No other batsman is so good as Virat Kohli. ✔
Or
* Virat Kohli is better than any other batsman. ✔
